Information regarding the Implementation of Vaccinations
against COVID-19 for Infants between 6 Months and 4 Years Old

In accordance with the partial revision of the Practical Implementation of the Immunization Law (Ministry of Health Order No.27, 1958), the first vaccination (1st to 3rd doses) of the COVID-19 vaccine for infants between the ages of 6 months and 4 years (hereinafter referred to as "infants and children first vaccination") has been administered from October 24, 2022.

It is important that the side effects and reactions to the vaccine, as well as information on where to consult regarding the vaccination, are well known. The Health Service Bureau of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) has sent the attached information material on the implementation of the infants and children first vaccination to health authorities of each prefecture, municipality, and special ward. We would like to ask each facility establisher to cooperate as necessary in response to requests from the local health authorities so that parents can obtain the necessary information by, for example, placing the material in locations easily accessible to parents, posting them on websites and local area networks of the facility, and so on. At that time, we would like to ask each health authority to consider the utilization of the materials after making necessary edits, including filling in local contact information for consultations in order to respond to questions from parents.

As for information on the rationale and points to keep in mind concerning the vaccination of children with the COVID-19 vaccine, please refer to the administrative notification "Points regarding the Implementation of Vaccinations for Infants and Children against COVID-19 Infections in Schools" (Administrative Notification dated September 12, 2022, International Affairs Division, Minister’s Secretariat, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT)). We would like to ask you to continue to take measures in accordance with the contents of the above-mentioned administrative notification.
We are sharing this announcement with you with the hope that it will be utilized as a reference for your consideration of your responses to COVID-19.
